@Luke Cochran I cannot really say that they were being aggressive with you by throwing rocks. I believe that they sometimes like to cause distractions by throwing rocks. I had read in books and other blogs that the rock throwing may be a form of communication. If so, it's anyones guess as to what they are trying to communicate (Friend or foe? Who knows?) I had a friend that said the creatures would like to throw a rock so that it would hit or land on a table in his yard. He knew it was the creatures because his dog would stop running around and would not go into the woods. It just wanted to go into the house or under the deck. No one was ever hit by a rock at his home. In my personal experience at Pocahontas State Park in Virginia, my friend Jack and I were followed out one night. We purposefully tried NOT to turn on any torches and was successful because of the available moonlight. It was amazing to see the glowing eyes peeking from behind the trees. Just when we were about to leave, Jack asked me to turn on a torch in the direction we came from. When I did, rocks were immediately thrown at both of us but they were like pebbles and did not hit us. So in that case, I believe they did not like the bright light in their face or giving them away.

@Amanda Joseph Wow you just sparked a memory that I did not notice until you mentioned what Todd had said. Now I understand why I didn’t see other footprints in that area. But I did see other footprints maybe 60-80 yards around where this cast was made on another occasion. I will post the photo.

Yes. I would say that after making this cast, I started to be more mindful of the weather. If one is looking for footprints from a known area where they travel, try to go out early. This is so one can find a footprint, make a slightly extra milky cast with plaster of Paris, extend your wait-time to retrieve the cast and pick up as must detail as possible from it. If it looks like rain is coming and you're running out of time, cover it as best as you can (possibly with big rocks set around it and thick-cut branches over the top). If rain comes near the print, those details may still be preserved when one is ready to make a cast. Finding footprints of BF are exciting. At a minimum, carry a cheap digital camera and a $0.99 tape measure (very light compared to carrying Plaster of Paris for a long time). If you do not have anything to make a cast with and find a good print, pull out the measuring tape, set it up next to the footprint and take a picture.

Very good Tips. Being a "Peaceful Observer" is important. I believe that is why my friend Jack and I have had numerous encounters and have never been harmed.
